Old North Columbus is a neighborhood of the University District that is bounded to the north by Glen Echo Ravine, south by Lane Avenue, west by Olentangy River, and east by the Conway Railway Tracks. North Columbus was established in 1842 and was annexed into the City of Columbus in 1871, hence the name Old North Columbus.
Old North Columbus, a walkable community, is home to some of the greatest restaurants, bars, and nightlife venues in Columbus. It’s a great place to live—its diversity and affordability make it one of the best neighborhoods to live, work, and play in.

What’s the Neighborhood Like?
The residential sector of Old North Columbus has a very diverse population, including the working-class, the wealthy, and students. Home ownership has dropped, as many of the houses have been converted into multi-family dwellings to accommodate the renter population. Even though this area is close to the Ohio State University, the quality of housing generally gets better further north.
The Old North Columbus commercial district on High Street includes many restaurants—The Blue Danube, Hounddog’s Pizza, bars, and music venues are all located along High Street. Some of the notable historical landmarks in the neighborhood include the 1806 Beer Family Log Cabin, North High School, the Ramlow Building, Global Community United Methodist Church, and Medary Elementary School.
What’s Going on Near the Old North Columbus Neighborhood?
Columbus is putting a great effort into making Old North Columbus a car-free community. Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) has local bus routes that travel on High, Summit, and 4th Streets.
